| these are the good times Johannes Buss 26/09/2007 City: Berlin MuseumMAN Berlin presents Johannes Buss these are the good times - series of works on paper opening event september 26th 2007 19h exhibition 27.09. - 03.10.2007, visits upon appointment ( phone 0151-11665640) MuseumMAN Berlin Kastanienalle 72 10435 Berlin additional text: When the EMPIRE has crossed all borders and everything and everybody is market, when nature and culture have ultimatelly fused because everything is imitiable at anytime, then these are the good times. That’s also the title of Johannes Buss' series of big format works on paper that depicts the portraits of mainly recognizable / iconic characters of the 20th and 21st century. These works reflect on the one hand on the isolated individual in a postindustrial world of merged economies and global ‚brandmarks'. Beyond that they also ‚knock on everybody's door' because they force the viewers to confront the connotations and implications of their own cultural norms, values, and stereotypes. The peculiar choice of colours, the displacement out of the original image's context and the application of written text in form of e.g. imprints on clothing items or as tattoos creates a migratory meaning that the newly formed characters are so to speak ‚abused' to transport. It often leaves the observer in a disconcerting state that gives little to hold onto. It's familiar unfamiliar. Johannes Buss will also be represented on the Berliner Kunstsalon 2007 through the project gallery 'Kapitalistischer Realismus 2.0. The Kunstsalon opens on 27.09. and will run untill 02.10.2007.
